Following the statement made by the University of Glasgow Student Representative Council (SRC), the University of Glasgow Intellectual Property Society (GU IPS) wishes to state our support and solidarity for the members of staff of the University of Glasgow (UoG) participating in the strike. Members of the University and College Union (UCU), including UoG staff who are members of the UCU, were balloted across two separate ballots on pay & working conditions and cuts to pensions. The ballots saw more than 80% of voters that voted ‘yes’ towards a strike action.

We, at the GU IPS, are aware that the decision to strike is not one made lightly by members of staff and teaching faculty and wish to express our support as they take a stance towards improving working conditions for university staff. We also believe that quality education comes hand in hand with good working conditions and that a positive response from UoG management will consequently result in a better learning environment for all students.

We also hope that this show of solidarity encourages other students to actively participate in strike actions where it is within their capacity and aligns with their personal beliefs.
